It’s been a rough few years.

And more than one married-couple-to-be has had to indefinitely cancel their special day, causing tears and frustration world wide.

Weddings are a time to celebrate one thing: love, in all its forms. That’s why it can be devastating to miss out on that chance to come together and find joy in honoring the love that people share.

And, this year, finally, hopefully, we can celebrate love once again. And this time, we may attend weddings with a little more gratitude than we would have in 2019– because we know what it feels like to have weddings taken away from us.

Experts are already preparing for and already experiencing what’s known as the “wedding boom”: the influx of weddings that were canceled (or never scheduled) due to the pandemic.

So what can planners, families, venues, and couples do to prepare for this influx of events? What trends can we expect for weddings in the coming year? And how can we make these long-awaited unions feel truly unforgettable?

In this article, we’ll walk through all that comes with the wedding boom, what you can do to get ready for it, and how to make 2022 weddings look as exciting as they feel.

Is the Wedding Boom Real?

What exactly is the “wedding boom,” and what does it mean for you?

After a long year or two of postponements, canceled plans, and disappointment brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic, a significant spike in the amount of couples looking to get married is coming our way.

An inability to host a wedding during the worst of the pandemic or even just a desire to wait until things became more normal once again has led millions of people to hold off on engagements and marriage.

Likewise, a change in the overall state of the world and its future may also be motivating more people to pursue marriage now (sometimes serious or frightening world events can cause people to realize that life is too short not to commit to the ones you love). So, the wedding boom is certainly real, as are its potential consequences.

If it sounds overwhelming or stressful, that’s because, for many, it is. But, it doesn’t have to be. Understanding how the market is working and why can make a big difference.

Wedding Boom 2022

Even as the pandemic continues and evolves, we are finding new forms and precautions that allow us to have events. The world is not the same as it was before, but we have learned to live with Covid in many ways, which is why experts predict that, while the “wedding boom” may continue for years, the peak will most likely be in 2022.

What does that mean? Well, for one thing, planning a wedding may become significantly more difficult.

How to Prepare for the Wedding Boom

The wedding is exciting- it means that couples are finally able to tie the knot and share their love with others! Plus, it means that event planners and venues may be able to make up for some of the losses that they suffered in 2020.

But it also means that you should be prepared to navigate the busy world of weddings for the next few years.

Luckily, there’s a lot you can do to make things easier on yourself. Let’s dive in a little deeper.

Plan (Far) Ahead

With demand for just about any and everything wedding-related at an all-time high, it’s not just important, but necessary to pursue bookings and make purchases well ahead of time.

Otherwise, the risk of being unable to find a service with availability or the products you need skyrockets.

This is especially true if you have very specific “wants” for your wedding or your client’s wedding. Here at Urquid Linen, we recommend placing orders for any sort of product you’re interested in (tablecloths, napkins, table settings, chair covers, runners, etc.) as soon as you can, or a shortage of material might compromise your plans.

We also suggest that event planners and venues order 10-20% more linens than they think they will need.

You may think you know how many people are coming to an event, but it is extremely common for us to get a call last-minute from a panicked planner saying that 12 more people showed up than they expected. That means two more tables, two more table linens, and twelve more linen napkins. With heightened demand, these needs may not always be easily met. It’s always better to have more than less!

Be Ready to Make Choices

The 2022 wedding market (and even the 2023 wedding market) will be packed with competition, so there’s no time to waste; once you’ve decided on something, be ready to act on it.

The longer you wait, the higher the chance that you’ll end up missing out.

Be Flexible & Consider Alternative Options

Even perfect planning can’t always make up for the simple fact that many wedding service providers will be getting very busy. It may be a good idea to encourage your clients ahead of time to be flexible and creative in their desires.

It’s beneficial to be open to thinking outside the box. It’s something many couples are unwilling to do, according to many in the industry, but it doesn’t have to make an event any less special.

Try out unique colors and patterns. Consider an atypical venue. Move some tables out into the backyard. If you do anything that deviates from the norm, you’re lessening the amount of competition for your event.

How Many Weddings Will There be in 2022?

Wedding experts estimate that around 2.6 million weddings will occur in 2022 alone, a staggering figure compared to the past few years. For perspective, only around 1.2 million weddings occurred in 2020.

Many in the wedding industry are struggling to keep up with the surge in demand. Others are so fully booked that they’re unable to take on new clients at all, which can be frustrating for everyone involved.

While it may seem like things are crazy, they’re actually returning to where they were in the past. Still, the significant gap in time and resources caused by the pandemic mean that even a return to normalcy can be challenging to stay on top of.

Wedding Color Palette Ideas 2022

From the dress all the way down to tablecloths and napkins, which aesthetics will define the 2022 wedding boom?

Not only will a creative color palette make an event look and feel satisfying, it will help you define exactly what you need ahead of time, increasing the likelihood of you getting exactly what you hoped for.

Pinterest Predicts, an annual report released by Pinterest that seeks to predict the trends of the coming year, suggests that this year will be full of life.

Everything bold and unique – from gradient dresses to pearls and more – will be 2022’s motto.

If you’re looking to stay on top of what’s hot, opt for variety in your color scheme. Alternatively, you might find that choosing to stay within the same color “family” (cool vs. warm tones) makes it easier for you to incorporate other visual elements into your wedding. Natural décor and plants, for example, are huge right now!

The season in which your wedding occurs will probably influence your decision, too, especially if you’re having an outdoor wedding. Below are some of our favorite seasonal wedding color palette ideas for 2022, but don’t be afraid to experiment and come up with something totally your own!

Summer Wedding Colors 2022

Summer is all about fun, bright colors that are both energizing and unique. Many couples enjoy playing around with bright oranges, blues, and yellows, but this year’s trends suggest that incorporating some natural elements into your look is a must.

Summer is a great time to really show off if you’re interested in this trend. The weather is beautiful, and most parts of the world already enjoy abundant plant life during this time, so it’s the perfect way to showcase stunning floral arrangements, floral garland and table settings, and more.

Fall Wedding Colors 2022

Fall is well-known for its earthy, rustic energy, and most wedding color schemes aiming to capture it opt for the colors of the natural world at the time.

That means things like:

  • Dark colors like burgundy, mossy greens, and mustard yellow
  • Oranges and rust color
  • Deep blues and purples
  • Golden hues and browns

If you’re looking to really spice things up, consider incorporating things like pumpkins, gourds, and other seasonal décor into your plan.

Spring Wedding Colors 2022

Typically, spring is a time for soft pinks, purples, and baby blues, and the same goes for 2022. Springtime is usually fairly simple in its nature and appearances, which gives you a lot of creative freedom and flexibility.

Some colors to try out include:

  • Mint green
  • Pink; if you’re looking to branch out, opt for a bright pink or a medium pink
  • Lavender
  • Soft yellow
  • Periwinkle, the 2022 color of the year

Winter Wedding Colors 2022

When the weather outside isn’t the most lively, it helps to compensate with bold colors that stick out. Winter is the perfect time to embrace deep blues, including Pantone’s color of the year for 2022 (periwinkle), and purples.

You might also like incorporating berry tones into the mix. The same goes for earthy shades like dark green, especially if you’re looking to get married around the holidays.
